Short answer: No
Long answer: No
Alright, I'm biased I know. However, I consider myself to be a somewhat
'household duty' challenged person with a tendancy towards laziness
and if I can do it? You can do it too!! What it boils down to is this:
I do about 2 to 3 wash loads of diapers a week. Big deal. Throw it
in, take it out, dry it, DONE!
It might be a LITTLE extra work but it's got big payoffs :
- It's better for our children. Disposable diapers don't breathe
like cloth diapers do
- It's WAY cheaper than disposables! See "COST
COMPARISONS" for details! Just think of all the ways you could
spend that money you save!! Buy some platform sneakers! Buy some
fresh organic veggies at the farmer's market! Buy some beautiful
coloured pencils! Who knows? Save it for a rainy day!
- It's better for the environment. This is a subject of some debate
mind you! It's been said that the environmental benefits of cloth
diapering are negated by the huge amount of energy needed to wash
these diapers. Maybe yes, maybe no. It does seem a little funny
that no one wants to talk about the huge amount of energy needed
in the production of disposable diapers. Not to mention the fossil
fuels burnt in the transportation of disposable diapers to the
retail outlet, the consumer and then to the landfill!
- Babies who are cloth diapered toilet train earlier than those
who are diapered with disposables. By masking the feeling of wetness,
disposable diapers actually discourage a child from making the
connections that initiate the first steps towards toilet training.
Let's face it, the less time spent in diapers (even if they are
really comfy) the better!
- If you buy diapers made by a Work at Home Mama (WAHM) you are
making a choice to support the small fry. This is a decision you
can truly feel good about! You're voting for the plucky underdog
instead of the corporation!
